The human heart is such a fragile little thing. We spend half our lives in hope of finding another to give our hearts to. Someone who'd keep it well and secure, someone who'd nurse it with love and tender care. We give bits and pieces of our hearts to people we think would do just that for us. Little do we realize that by doing that, we're subjecting ourselves to vulnerability. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. And sadly, humans are lousy governors of hearts.
Locking our hearts up and building walls around it could bring a form of pseudo security. But at the same time, it would make us such lonely civilians in our little desolated towns. So what do we do? Make it impenetrable and unbreakable by keeping it in a safe? Or lavish our hearts and be completely unguarded? Either way, we'd end up miserable... I figured.
Too often, I find myself struggling so much in this area. Yet, it's nothing complicated, really. When we find something that was lost, we find it's rightful owner and return it. Withholding it from it's owner and keeping it for oneself would be deemed as stealing. Similarly, the best way to keep our hearts is to return it to it's rightful Owner- it's Creator. The only One who loved it with His life. The only One who is able to guard, to protect, to convict, to mend when it breaks, to mould it into something beautiful... someday.
