Chinese New Year

CNY this year has been pretty different. In fact, it doesn't even feel like CNY at all! Perhaps it's cos I didn't buy anything in preparation for it. I just wore my old new clothes- Those I've bought for like a thousand years ago but didn't have the chance to wear then. You might say, new year's not about the clothes. Okay food? Hmm maybe. But I mean, I can eat pineapple tarts/bahgwa any time of the year. LingZhiYuan and Bengawan Solo doesn't stop operating throughout the year, you know.

Usually for new year, when we visit our relatives, I'd have brother with me to go through all the misery. Oh did I just say that? Haha. I just don't like small talk I guess. Small talk with not so nice relatives to be exact. Haha. But having kids in our midst never fail to easen the mood and make me feel like, "Okay... we're family afterall, no matter what." Time passed really fast at this year's dinner surprisingly, which is a good thing. Nonetheless, I miss my bro and I wonder if he does too. Haha.

My entire family wore black today. What superstitious ppl we are! Hahaha. I observed the entire day and I couldn't find a single person wearing entirely black... cept the three of us. Haha! Okay I was kind enough not to wear black stockings on top of my black dress (Which mum advocated for). Haha.

You gotta say Mum's not bad a photographer too. I mean, she thought of capturing such a shot. Cool uh.

On the way back from dinner, my uncle and dad were talking about how much fun they used to have as kids, how all of their siblings used to play with each other and how great a dad their late Dad was. Then they started singing a song which was apparently my late uncle's favorite song. The few minutes in the car was so heartwarming. For once, I just kept quiet throughout the car ride, listening to them. My uncle passed away 1plus years ago due to a sudden asthma attack. His death has reminded us of the unpredictability of life, how we should forgive quickly and treasure each other while we still have time to. I miss my uncle and regret not having known him better. Perhaps it's time I be nicer to my extended family members, regardless of how they treat my family. Hmm.
